Where No Monkie Kid Has Gone Before!

A very brief summary of my thoughts on the biggest of the space-based Monkie Kid sets.

When I first saw this set I had my doubts. It had the bright colors signature to Monkie Kid sets, and unfortunately the high price as well. On a whole, this set was a success and worthwhile investment, that said I do have some grievances. Starting with my biggest criticism, the bottom side of the build has a fairly noticeable gap in it. While I understand that this was left so that the space would be more available for accessory storage, it isn’t the most aesthetically pleasing to look at. However, a few bricks from one’s collection can easily patch the gap. On a more positive note, the set itself is surprisingly large and definitely has the recognisable presence of a Monkie Kid set.
I don’t love the rover, jetpack, and launch station side builds, but that said they aren’t bad and make for basic scenery.
Additionally, all of the hero minifigures in this set (Space MK, Space Mei, Space Mr. Tang, and Space Sandy) are exclusive. The Shadow Monkeys are nothing special, but do make for decent generic villains. One thing that frustrates me about the minifigure selection was the lack of a Pigsy. His figure in a space suit isn’t available in this set and instead must be purchased in Chang’e Moon Cake Factory (set 80032).
On a whole, this is a strong entry to the Monkie Kid set lineup, but its value lies more in displayability than it does in playability.
