I think Cole's Earth Driller may have been one of the first sets I ever built with no parental assistance. I've rebuilt this Ninjago classic many times over the years and it's held up to all kinds of play. Now, I find myself comparing it to Lego's recently re-released version, part of a few "retro" sets celebrating Ninjago's final season.

I love this set. It is one of the first Lego sets I remember getting and I remember thinking it was the definition of awesome. This set is fun with its rotating drill. It’s made cooler by the fact that Lego re-released this set as part of their Legacy series. The cockpit only has room for Cole, but the vehicle has a really nice look to it. It has lots of play value and is a very satisfying build. The minifigures are nice because this was the only Cole in his dark island outfit and there's also a generic stone warrior. Even though it is retired, I highly recommend this set if you ever see it or have a chance to purchase it. I give this set a five-star review because it is a good price with lots of cool features.
Here are some comparisons between this one and the newest version:
Old
One figure cockpit
One stone warrior
Season 2 Cole
Spinning drill
Difficulty: Easy
-----------------------------------------------
New
Two figure cockpit
Two stone warriors
One giant stone warrior
Legacy Cole and Kai
Spinning drill
Stud shooters
Difficulty: Hard
Although the new version can do a little more, I’m always going to be a fan of Cole’s original Earth Driller
